The 1911 Gouby X – A rare Coin

…Also known as the hollow-neck variety

This period of coinage was plagued by ghosting and in an effort to stop this the mint tried a number of different ideas. In the case of the hollow neck, this involved depressing an area at the back of the neck of the effigy. This was normal on 1912 and 1913 coins but was found to be a significant variation on 1911-dated coins.

Freeman catalogs this coin as R17 (16-50 known examples) whilst Gouby catalogs this as R7 – Extremely Rare (26-50)
