Here is a coin of tiny proportions, measuring only 15 mm in diameter, so small that it would be easy to lose I’m sure.
The denomination its self was minted for use in Malta where the value corresponded to the Maltese Grano and never legal tender here in the UK.
My example was found at the bottom of a job lot of coins purchased at the local auction and is in pretty decent condition for its age.


One thing I did note when taking the photos for this post was the die-cracking present on the Obverse, between the I and T in BRITT and at the base of the bust. This would indicate that this die was somewhat on its last legs at this time and would need to be repaired or more likely replaced. There is what looks like a planchet issue around the D as well but this could be due to its age.


1866 saw a mintage of 576,000 Third Farthings minted.
